Return With His Quartet

Chapter One

As night fell, the cold moon hung high in the sky. The bright moonlight fell on the ancient castle on the edge of the city, casting a mysterious silver veil around it. Emily stood on the balcony, looking at the forest in the distance, and felt a chill rising from the bottom of her heart. Since moving to this castle, her life has become bizarre and mysterious.
The cold wind in October swept across her bare shoulders, bringing a shudder. Emily subconsciously wrapped her woolen shawl tightly around her, but she couldn't feel any warmth. This castle seems to be always cold, just like its mysterious owner Lucas Black, exuding an inaccessible atmosphere.
"Miss Emily," suddenly, a low voice sounded behind her, "You'll catch a cold if you're still outside so late."
She turned around and saw Lucas standing at the balcony door. The moonlight outlined his tall figure. He was wearing a dark silk shirt, and the collar vaguely revealed his strong chest. The amber eyes flickered strangely in the darkness, as if they could see through her soul.
"Mr. Black," Emily whispered, trying to hide the trembling in her voice, "I'm just admiring the moonlight."
Lucas took a step forward, but suddenly stopped. Emily noticed that his body stiffened instantly, and his nostrils fluttered slightly, as if he was sniffing something. His expression became solemn, and a glimmer of wildness flashed in his eyes, but was quickly suppressed.
"Please go in," his voice was hoarser than usual, "It's not safe here."
Just then, a cold night breeze swept across the balcony, bringing a faint smell of rust. Emily saw that Lucas's fingers were almost pinched into the stone railing, and his knuckles were white. She couldn't help but take a step back, her heartbeat accelerated.
"I thought this castle was the safest place," she whispered, "after all, you are here."
Lucas let out an almost inaudible growl, "Some danger, Miss Emily, is much closer than you think." His eyes looked unusually sharp in the moonlight, "especially on a full moon night."
Suddenly, a wolf howl came from the distant forest, shrill and long. Emily was surprised to find that Lucas' pupils shrank in an instant and turned into vertical pupils like a beast, but the fleeting change made her wonder if it was just an illusion caused by the moonlight.
Just then, a cold breath passed by her from behind, accompanied by a chuckle. Emily turned around and saw only a dark shadow flashing in the corner of the balcony. When she looked back again, Lucas had come to her side, with a hand gently on her shoulder.
"I'll take you back to your room," he said, with an unquestionable commanding tone in his voice. Emily noticed that his palms were surprisingly hot, in sharp contrast to the chill of the castle.
Walking in the dark corridor of the castle, Emily could feel Lucas' presence, he walked behind her like a silent guardian. Moonlight poured in through the Gothic stained glass windows, casting mottled shadows on the floor.
"Good night, Miss Emily," Lucas whispered in front of her door, "Remember, no matter what sound you hear, don't leave the room tonight."
"Why?" Emily asked subconsciously.
Lucas was silent for a moment, his eyes looked deep and dangerous in the moonlight, "Because the moonlight tonight is too beautiful, it will always wake up something that shouldn't wake up."
When the door closed behind her, Emily leaned against the door, her heartbeat still alarmingly fast. She could hear Lucas's footsteps gradually fading away, but she seemed to hear the sound of wings flapping outside the window. She walked to the window and looked out through the glass.
In the moonlit courtyard, she saw a figure standing by the fountain. The man looked up at her window, and the moonlight illuminated his pale marble face - it was Draco, with a mysterious smile on his lips and a dangerous light in his eyes. When Emily blinked, his figure had disappeared, as if he had never appeared. Emily lay trembling on the bed, listening to the wolf howling outside the window. She knew that she had fallen into a world full of dangers, and this was just the beginning. On this moonlit night, her fate was closely linked to two mysterious and dangerous beings, and there was no turning back.

Chapter Two

In the dead of night, Emily lay in bed, the faces of Lucas and Draco appeared in her mind. She could not resist the deep attraction, but she also knew that she was caught in a dangerous vortex. She knew that the confrontation between the two men was a life-and-death hostility, and she was just a pawn in their war. A corner of her heart reminded her to escape, but the deeper desire pulled her to stay in this mysterious castle, looking forward to the unknown encounter.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, a slight knock on the window interrupted the silence. Emily opened her eyes, and the moonlight poured into the room through the curtains, making the corners of the room particularly dark. She sat up subconsciously, trembling slightly and walked to the window. When she opened the curtains, a figure was standing in front of her, cold and elegant.

        It was Draco.

"Sorry, I scared you, Emily." His low voice was frivolous and indifferent, as if every word revealed his unfathomable darkness. His eyes were like two flames in the abyss, locking onto her with an irresistible force.

"How... are you here?" Emily's heartbeat quickened, and her hands unconsciously clenched a corner of the curtain. She knew she should be scared at this moment, but Draco's unique charm made it hard for her to resist.

Draco did not answer her question, but slowly approached, lowered his head and whispered in her ear: "You know why I'm here, Emily. You've never really been afraid of me, right?"

The moment he approached, she smelled the cold breath on him, as if it came from the night a thousand years ago. Her breathing gradually became rapid, but she did not retreat, but was locked by his eyes, as if her soul was also attracted to him.

"Draco... we can't do this." Her voice was weak, but she did not retreat at all, as if even she herself was struggling with contradictions.

"You don't belong here at all, Emily. Staying here will only put you in deeper danger." Draco gently lifted her chin, with a smile on the corner of his cold mouth, that smile was both gentle and dangerous, "But if you want to know the real darkness, then come. I will take you to see everything."

At this moment, the door was pushed open, and Lucas' figure appeared at the door like a shadow. His face was gloomy, and his eyes were burning with anger. It was his possessiveness and anger that he could not hide. He walked towards Draco step by step, his hands clenched, his muscles tensed, as if he was going to pounce on and tear the enemy in front of him in the next second.

"Draco, let her go." Lucas' voice was low and threatening, like an enraged beast. It was the first time Emily saw him so out of control, his eyes were like a ball of unextinguishable fire, revealing uncontrollable anger and possessiveness.

Draco smiled slightly, released Emily's chin, and looked at Lucas provocatively. "Don't you understand yet? She doesn't belong to you. The savagery of the wolf tribe is nothing but a bondage to her, and I can give her true freedom."

"The 'freedom' you mentioned will only make her fall into darkness. You don't understand what true protection is." Lucas sneered, his eyes as sharp as an eagle. He slowly stepped forward, blocked Emily, and protected her behind him. That was his attitude as the wolf king, firm and unshakable.

Emily was sandwiched between the two, feeling her heartbeat speed up, as if breathing became difficult. These two completely different forces intertwined and collided in front of her, making it impossible for her to decide which side to choose.

Draco raised the corners of his mouth and slowly took a step back, his eyes still on Emily. "Emily, one day you will find that he can't satisfy the desire in your heart. And I am your true home."

As soon as the voice fell, Draco's figure disappeared into the night, as if he had never appeared.

Lucas looked at the empty room, his fists gradually loosened, but the anger and worry in his eyes remained. He turned around and looked at Emily softly, but his eyes still flashed with contradictions and forbearance.

"Are you okay?" He asked in a low voice, with a trace of undisguised concern in his voice.

Emily nodded, but her heart was in turmoil and it was difficult to calm down. She knew that she had fallen too deep. She could not let go of these two men easily, nor could she easily resist them. A complex emotion surged in her heart, which was a dangerous and fatal attraction.

"Lucas, I..." She wanted to say something, but lost her words when she met his eyes.

"Don't get close to him." Lucas' voice was low, with a hint of pleading and warning, "I know you feel confused, but Draco is not what you think. He will only drag you into the darkness, and I won't let him hurt you."

Emily just looked at him silently, and a touch of uncertainty gradually rose in her heart. She knew that this was not just a war, but a contest of feelings and desires. In this dangerous triangle relationship, she has gone too far and can never turn back.

Chapter Three

Emily stayed awake all night. The wind outside the window blew through the woods, making a low moan, as if the whole castle was whispering in her ear. She curled up in bed, recalling Draco's cold smile and Lucas's deep eyes. Two completely different attractions stirred in her heart, making her lost on the edge of danger and desire.

When the sky was slightly bright, she made a decision. She had to figure out what she wanted, the wildness and protection of the wolf tribe, or the mystery and temptation of the vampire. She got up and walked out of the room, walked through the deserted corridor, and came to the door of Lucas's study.

The door of the study was slightly open, and a whisper came from inside. Emily stood outside the door and pricked up her ears to listen.

"She is innocent, Lucas." A low and gentle female voice came from Lucas's sister, Leila. Emily had heard rumors about her. Leila was the wisest prophet in the wolf tribe and could always see fragments of the future.

"I know, Leila." Lucas' voice was hoarse, as if he had struggled all night, "but I can't control myself, I can't suppress my desire for her. I'm afraid that if she stays with me, she will only be swallowed by my darkness."

Emily's heart trembled, and she raised her hand to push open the door.

"Lucas." Her voice was abrupt and firm in the silent room.

The two turned around and saw her standing at the door with a hint of determination in her eyes. She walked slowly towards Lucas, looked up at him, with a hint of determination and inquiry in her eyes.

"I know you protect me, but I'm not a fragile child." Her voice was calm and firm, "I need to know the truth. Why are you always so hesitant? And why is Draco so persistent in approaching me?"

Lucas' expression froze for a moment, his eyes wandering on her face, as if he was weighing whether to tell her everything. Finally, he took a deep breath, as if he had made up his mind.

"Emily, the fate of our werewolves is usually determined at birth. The wolf tribe has a unique ability to perceive its partner. When we find that person, we will feel an attraction that cannot be ignored... and you are my destined partner." Lucas spoke in a low voice, with pain and desire flashing in his eyes.

Emily's heartbeat accelerated, and thousands of emotions surged in her mind, both shocked and confused. She never thought that she would become his destined partner, and his possessiveness and protectiveness of her turned out to come from this ancient bond.

She asked softly: "What about Draco? Why is he so obsessed with me?"

Lucas's eyes became more gloomy, and there was a hint of anger in his eyes. "Draco's tribe never believed in fate. They prefer to dominate their own future. And he believes that as long as he possesses you, he can destroy me and the traditional beliefs of the wolf tribe. So, he is not sincere to you, but to weaken my power."

Emily's heart suddenly tightened, and a hint of anger and loss surged in her eyes. However, she also felt a little unwilling, as if she was just a tool in this struggle, being fought over and torn by the two, and she had no right to control herself.

"So, Lucas, are you sincere? Is it just fate for me?" There was a hint of disappointment in her voice, and her eyes became cold.

Lucas was stunned, as if he was hurt by her question. He was silent for a moment before speaking: "Emily, I can't deny the existence of fate, but I can't ignore my feelings for you." He gently held her hand, his eyes full of affection and desire, "Whether it is fate or something else, I am willing to give up everything for you."

Just then, a slight sound came from outside the window. Emily turned back suddenly and saw a pair of dark red eyes flashing outside the window, like a flame in the dark, and the familiar cold breath startled her heart.

        It was Draco.

He stood outside the window, sneering at them, as if everything was under his control. He knocked on the window lightly, his voice cold and full of provocation: "I don't think it's possible to talk about 'betraying' everything here, Lucas. You can't protect her because she will eventually come to me."

Lucas' eyes immediately became cold and dangerous. He stood in front of Emily, glared at Draco outside the window, and growled in a low voice: "Stay away from her, Draco. You can't force her to choose darkness."

Draco smiled slightly, his eyes full of evil confidence. He raised his eyebrows at Emily, as if everything was under his control. "Dear Emily, you will find that the bright world cannot satisfy your desire. And darkness - is your destination." After he finished speaking, his figure instantly disappeared into the night.

The room returned to silence, but the air was filled with tension and uneasiness. Emily looked at the empty darkness outside the window, feeling both fear and desire in her heart. She could no longer deny Draco's attraction to her, and the danger and mystery made her heart beat faster.

Lucas noticed her hesitation, and a trace of pain and uneasiness flashed in his eyes. He gently held her hand and whispered, "Emily, don't get close to him. His darkness will devour you and make you lost in the endless night."

She didn't respond, but just looked at him silently, her heart full of complicated emotions. She knew that she could no longer simply withdraw from the two of them. Her fate had been drawn into an uncontrollable vortex, and the only thing she could do was to follow her heart and touch the unknown darkness.

Chapter Four

As autumn deepened, the forest surrounding the castle donned a cloak of gold and crimson. Yet Emily felt none of the season's warmth. Since that night's revelation, her mind had been in constant turmoil, with Lucas's truth and Draco's temptation intertwining like two serpents in her thoughts, leaving her breathless.

That evening, Emily found herself alone in the castle's library, searching through ancient tomes for any mention of werewolves and vampires. As she focused on a yellowed manuscript, the air suddenly turned cold. Looking up, she found Draco standing across from her, his appearance as silent as shadow.

"Seeking truth, my dear Emily?" Draco leaned elegantly against the bookshelf, wearing a deep purple silk shirt that made his skin appear even paler. "But you know, written accounts are often one-sided."

Emily instinctively stepped back. "Why do you always appear like this? It's unsettling."

Draco chuckled softly, moving toward her with fluid grace. "Because I enjoy seeing you startled. It makes you even more enticing." His fingers traced her cheek, the cold touch making her shiver. "Lucas told you I'm merely using you, but did he mention that his fate is actually a chain binding him?"

Emily froze. "What do you mean?"

"The werewolves' so-called destined mates are nothing but constraints in their bloodline," Draco's voice carried a hypnotic power. "They're forced to love someone, forced to protect them. Isn't that tragic? While I..." his gaze deepened, "I choose you because I'm truly drawn to you."

A low growl suddenly echoed from the doorway. Lucas stood there, his eyes now golden, filled with rage. "Step away from her, Draco!" His voice carried an unmistakable threat.

Instead of retreating, Draco pulled Emily closer. "Why so angry, Lucas? Is it because I spoke the truth, or because you fear she might choose me?"

The tension in the air grew thick enough to cut. Emily could feel the energy between the two men threatening to tear the room apart. Lucas's body trembled as he fought to control the beast within.

"Enough!" Emily suddenly shouted, "What am I to both of you? Some trophy to be won?" Her voice carried both anger and hurt.

Both men froze. Pain flashed across Lucas's eyes, while Draco's expression turned contemplative.

Emily pushed away from Draco and walked toward the door, but paused beside Lucas. "You say I'm your destiny, but have you considered my feelings?" Her voice was soft but accusatory. "And you, Draco, if you truly cared for me, you wouldn't use me as a weapon against him."

She hurried from the library, and only when she reached the corridor did her tears finally fall. She didn't know whom to trust - Lucas, chosen by fate, or Draco, who chose her himself? More importantly, she began to question whether she truly understood her own heart.

As night fell, Emily stood on her balcony. Wolves howled in the distant forest, while somewhere in the castle, she thought she heard the flutter of bat wings. Everything reminded her that she stood at the crossroads between two worlds, and she had to make a choice.

Then she noticed items on the balcony railing: a rose as black as night with a blood-red sheen - Draco's mark. Beside it lay a wolf fang necklace, a werewolf protection charm, obviously left by Lucas.

Emily gently touched both items, her internal conflict growing stronger. She knew that choosing either would alter her destiny forever. But more importantly, she needed to understand what her heart truly desired.

As moonlight bathed the castle grounds, Emily realized that her decision wouldn't just be about choosing between two men - it was about choosing what kind of life she wanted, and more importantly, who she wanted to become.

Chapter Five

The following days in the castle were filled with an unbearable tension. Emily found herself constantly caught between shadows and silence, between warmth and cold. Every corner seemed to hold either Lucas's protective presence or Draco's seductive whispers. The weight of their attention was becoming increasingly suffocating.

One particularly cold morning, Emily discovered a mysterious leather-bound book in the library's restricted section. Its pages contained ancient prophecies about the eternal conflict between werewolves and vampires. As she read, her hands trembling, she found something that made her blood run cold.

'When the moon bleeds red and the night grows teeth, a choice will be made that breaks the ancient cycle. A mortal's heart shall tip the balance, bringing either eternal darkness or salvation to both races.'

"Interesting reading material," Leila's voice suddenly came from behind. Lucas's sister moved like a ghost, her silver eyes holding centuries of wisdom. "I've been waiting for you to find this."

Emily closed the book carefully. "Is this... about me?"

Leila's expression remained enigmatic. "The prophecy speaks of a mortal who stands between our worlds. But prophecies, dear Emily, are like rivers - they show the destination, but the path taken is always your choice."

"What happens if I choose wrong?" Emily's voice wavered.

"There is no wrong choice, only consequences," Leila replied, her voice gentle but firm. "But I must warn you - the blood moon approaches, and with it, a moment of truth that will change everything."

Before Emily could ask more questions, a commotion erupted from the castle grounds. They rushed to the window to see Lucas and Draco facing each other in the courtyard, their postures tense with barely contained violence.

"You've crossed the line, Draco," Lucas's voice carried up to them, filled with fury. "You dare to mark our territory?"

Draco's laugh was cold and mocking. "Territory? This stopped being about territory the moment she arrived. Or are you afraid she's already choosing me?"

Emily watched in horror as Lucas's form began to shift, his muscles rippling beneath his clothes. The morning sun caught his golden eyes, now burning with primal rage. Draco's own transformation was more subtle - his pale skin taking on an otherworldly sheen, his movements becoming impossibly fluid.

"Stop!" Emily's voice rang out across the courtyard. Both men froze, their attention snapping to her window. "This has to end!"

She turned to rush downstairs, but Leila caught her arm. "Be careful, Emily. The blood moon is three days away. Under its light, both races lose control of their darker natures. And you..." she paused meaningfully, "you will be at your most vulnerable."

When Emily reached the courtyard, the tension was thick enough to choke on. Lucas immediately moved to her side, his protective instinct evident in every motion. But it was Draco who spoke first.

"My apologies for the disturbance, dear Emily," his voice was silk over steel. "But perhaps it's time you understood the full scope of what you're involved in." He pulled an ancient medallion from his coat. "This belongs to your grandmother. She wasn't just any woman - she was a guardian, keeper of the balance between our races."

Emily's world tilted. "My grandmother? But she died when I was young..."

"She was murdered," Lucas cut in, his voice heavy with old pain. "By those who wanted to destroy the peace between our kinds. And now, as her descendant, you inherit her role - and her enemies."

The revelation hit Emily like a physical blow. Suddenly, everything made more sense - the mysterious circumstances that led her to the castle, both men's intense interest in her, the prophecy. She wasn't just caught between two supernatural beings; she was part of an ancient legacy.

"The blood moon comes," Draco said softly, his eyes locked on Emily. "And with it, powers long dormant will awaken. You'll need to choose not just between us, Emily, but between two paths for both our races."

As if in response to his words, clouds gathered overhead, casting strange shadows across the courtyard. Emily felt something stir within her, something old and powerful, like a sleeping giant finally beginning to wake.

Lucas moved closer, his warmth a stark contrast to the chill air. "Whatever you choose, Emily, know that my protection isn't just about fate or duty anymore. It's about-"

But before he could finish, a piercing scream cut through the air. All three turned to see Leila collapsed at the castle entrance, her silver eyes wide with terror as she pointed at the sky.

"It's coming," she gasped. "The blood moon... it's coming early. And with it, they're returning - the ones who killed your grandmother. They're coming for Emily."

In that moment, as Emily looked between Lucas and Draco, she realized that her choice might not be about love at all - it might be about survival.

Chapter 1

In the sky above, thunder rumbled, sending shivers down Aurora's spine. Startled, she lost her balance and landed on her backside, completely taken aback.

She found herself in her childhood home, tucked away in the countryside. The house, now dilapidated, was surrounded by piles of firewood and overgrown weeds. In the pitch-black room, she could barely make out her surroundings.

Ever since she was a child, Aurora had been plagued by a fear of the dark. Determined to keep her anxiety at bay, she stumbled towards the door, desperately pounding on it. "Is anyone there? Open the door!"

The old house was tightly sealed, with walls enclosing it on all sides. The roof tiles, worn and weathered, threatened to collapse, some already falling off sporadically. There was a single wooden door that served as her only means of escape, but no matter how hard she pushed, it refused to budge.

A deafening clap of thunder split the sky, causing Aurora to flinch. Then, with a resounding thud, something crashed through the roof, creating a cacophony of noise.

"Ahh!" Aurora shrieked in terror.

Her heart pounding in her chest, Aurora watched in horror as a man lay sprawled on the ground. He had fallen through the roof! The way he curled up suggested immense pain.

"Are you okay?" she asked, cautiously keeping her distance.

There was no response from the man. Could he be dead?

Before she could let out a scream, he covered her mouth with his hand, holding her from behind. His grip felt damp, the scent of blood lingering in the air.

"Don't worry."I won't kill you," the man's voice resonated with a deep, primal power, tinged with a hint of faltering control. It carried a breathless quality that sent shivers down Aurora's spine.

Fear widened Aurora's eyes, and she nodded fervently, silently promising not to scream. The man cautiously removed his hand from her mouth, only to collapse onto the ground moments later.

A low grunt escaped the man's throat, his warm breath caressing Aurora's nose and dispelling the cold night air with a comforting heat. "Save me, and I'll grant your every desire," he rasped, his voice rough and almost hoarse as he whispered into Aurora's ear.

Before Aurora could utter a word, his lips claimed hers, igniting a storm within them. Lightning streaked across the sky, illuminating their entangled bodies, casting dancing shadows, and saturating the air with an undeniable fervor.

Time ceased to exist as their passion consumed them, until eventually, Aurora succumbed to unconsciousness.

Dim light hindered his vision, preventing him from discerning her features, yet he could feel the warmth and softness of her skin. Removing an emerald pendant, a cherished family heirloom, from around his neck, he placed it gently into her palm. "This shall be our token. Use it to find me."

Reluctantly, he knew he had to depart. Aurora remained unconscious as he ascended the ladder that dangled from the helicopter, leaving her behind.

With the break of dawn, Aurora awoke with a jolt. The events of the previous night flooded her mind, the man's heavy, passionate breath echoing in her ears, igniting an intense blush on her cheeks.

Slowly, she rose from the straw-strewn floor, her body pulsating with an unfamiliar ache. Blood stained the ground beneath her, a haunting reminder of the previous night's events. Confusion mingled with the pain as she tried to decipher what had truly transpired. Had the blood spilled from her own wounds or his? The man had been injured, that much she could discern through the haze of her memories. But what lingered within her was the abrupt loss of her innocence, a disorienting twist to her existence.

Tears threatened to spill from her eyes, but she fought against them, gazing upwards through the dilapidated roof. The sky beckoned with its growing brightness, the rain-washed expanse devoid of clouds. Dawn was breaking, a symbol of new beginnings. Yet her mind remained trapped in the darkness of the previous night, stormy and unforgiving.

A surge of emotions coursed through her, blending anger with sorrow. In her hand, she discovered an emerald pendant, a token left behind by the man. Fueled by fury, she flung the jewelry to the ground, a futile attempt to rid herself of his hollow offerings. How dare he think a trinket could compensate for the theft of her virtue?

Pushing open the door, she was met with a sight that caused her head to throb with pain. Her boyfriend lay entangled in the sheets with her own cousin, their clothes scattered haphazardly across the floor. It was as if a knife had sliced through her heart, leaving it raw and bleeding.

Timothy, her partner of two years during their college days, had accompanied her to her hometown for a summer rendezvous with her mother. Their plans of marriage had seemed solid, prompting her to invite him into her most sacred space. Little had she expected her mother's sudden departure, leaving them alone to confront this betrayal.

The weight of her emotions threatened to consume her, but she refused to be defeated. She would reclaim her autonomy, her spirit unyielding. The journey ahead would be treacherous, but she would rise from the ashes, forging a new destiny untethered by the shackles of deceit. So, left to entertain Timothy alone, Aurora found herself relying on her own resourcefulness. Thankfully, her cousin had arrived to lend a hand in the kitchen. After dinner, her cousin insisted that Aurora fetch some firewood for a bath.

Imprisoned against her will, Aurora felt a deep sense of violation. Her virginity had been taken from her by a stranger, leaving her physically and emotionally traumatized. She had hoped that Timothy would offer her solace, perhaps even shed a few tears with her. Little did she know that he would deliver the final blow when she was at her most vulnerable.

The first to awaken, Celeste let out a startled scream. "What the hell! Aurora, let me explain. We got drunk last night, and I thought he was my boyfriend. I just…"

Timothy, too, was jolted awake. Surveying the chaotic scene, he saw Aurora beside him, disheveled and distraught. Hastily dressing himself, he stuttered, "Aurora, I thought it was you last night…"

With that, she spun around and fled from the room. Timothy quickly scrambled to get dressed and chased after her.

Aurora sprinted towards the dilapidated old house, determined to find the pendant and confront the man responsible for her anguish. But as she entered the worn-down structure, weakened by years of neglect and drenched from the previous night's rain, it collapsed with a resounding crash, bringing a neighboring house down with it.

Hoarsely, Timothy called out to Aurora, his voice filled with desperation and regret.

Chapter 2

: Five Years Later

The train station in Starhaven buzzed with activity as Aurora hurried through the crowd, burdened by an assortment of packages slung over her shoulder. Behind her trailed four adorable children, their tiny legs waddling like little penguins. Their cherubic faces attracted the attention of passersby, who couldn't help but smile at the sight.

Aurora's mother, Holly, huffed and grumbled, her voice tinged with exhaustion. "I've been chasing after you all day, running myself ragged. I can't even remember the last time I had a moment to rest. You sure know how to pop out babies like rabbits, giving me four grandkids in one go. I'm stuck babysitting all the time, with no time for fun. And just look at my clothes, they're practically falling apart. Who wears stuff like this nowadays?"

Struggling under the weight of her luggage, Aurora gasped for breath before responding, "Mom, I appreciate everything you do. I promise, once I find a better-paying job, I'll buy you new clothes." The responsibility of supporting four kids weighed heavily on both of them.

Five years ago, Aurora's innocence was shattered on a stormy night. She longed to reclaim the pendant and find the man responsible, but fate had other plans. The old house collapsed in a sudden fury, narrowly sparing Aurora's life as she stood beneath a gaping hole in the roof. Three months later, she discovered that she was pregnant, a cruel twist of fate that left her reeling.

Her life was in ruins, and she yearned to hold the man accountable. But the pendant he left behind was lost in the rubble, reduced to nothing more than dust. She searched tirelessly, but found no trace of him. Without any clues or memory of his face, finding him seemed as impossible as finding a needle in a haystack.

Since then, Aurora's life had been a rollercoaster of hardship and joy, raising her four precious children. In the bustling city of Starhaven, where competition was fierce and opportunities scarce, making ends meet was a constant battle.

Holly, worn down and despondent, voiced her frustrations, "You can barely afford to feed the kids. How are you going to provide for me? Look at me, struggling with four children and hauling all this luggage. I'm beyond exhausted."

Robert, a dashing young lad, stepped forward, offering his assistance. "Granny, let me help you with the bags," he said with genuine concern.

"Granny, thank you. When we get home, I'll give you a soothing back rub," Bryan gently offered, his eyes shining with compassion. Despite being a boy, he possessed an ethereal beauty that resembled that of a delicate girl.

Not to be outdone, Pandora chimed in, "Granny, I'll give you a massage too!" Her big eyes framed by long lashes and her cherubic cheeks made her look like a living doll.

Seraphine, donning a baseball cap and exuding a cool aura, added, "Granny, I want to cook for you." Her clear eyes radiated positivity and determination.

Her children, Robert, Bryan, Pandora, and Seraphine, were not just names but bearers of profound meanings. Robert and Bryan embodied masculinity, while Pandora and Seraphine exuded femininity and grace.Every time Aurora caught sight of her children's innocent smiles, a surge of energy coursed through her veins, erasing any trace of fatigue that clung to her weary bones. Their playful chatter acted as a magnet, drawing the attention of passersby who couldn't help but cast curious and joyful glances at the four enchanting souls in Aurora's care.

"Wow, these kids are something else! They can cook and give massages? You must be one lucky grandma," a passerby marveled at Holly, unable to contain their admiration for the remarkable brood.

"Such well-mannered and sensible children! Their parents must be truly exceptional," a sophisticated woman chimed in, her words dripping with genuine praise.

"They are like angels descended from heaven, always smiling and ever so sensible," Holly proudly proclaimed to the onlooking crowd, her eyes shimmering with a mixture of joy and contentment.

Aurora stood by, allowing her mother to revel in this rare moment of pure happiness. She didn't want to taint the occasion with her own worries and concerns. After what felt like an eternity, they finally arrived at their modest living quarters in Starhaven.

For years, Aurora had chosen to rent a place in Starhaven, knowing that the wages here were higher than anywhere else. It was a sacrifice she willingly made, knowing that her mother, Holly, would be there to care for her precious children in her absence.

Once the room was tidied up to her satisfaction, Aurora turned to Holly and said, "Mom, I have a part-time job tonight. I need to leave now. I've already fried some eggs and made toast, so just heat up some milk for the kids."

"Alright, I've got it. You go ahead and be careful on the road," Holly replied, her impatience barely masked by her words. Even in her haste, she couldn't help but remind Aurora to take caution, a testament to her unwavering love and concern. With a delicate touch, Aurora applied a light layer of makeup, enhancing her natural beauty. This part-time job had been a fortunate find during her train ride. Joining a part-time job group had opened up opportunities for her to discover new gigs and their corresponding daily wages.

Tonight's task was to work as a waitress in a popular nightclub, serving drinks to the patrons and promoting the establishment's signature cocktails. As she arrived at Sapphire Skyline in Starhaven, Aurora was directed to put on the nightclub's uniform.

Even if she couldn't manage to sell any liquor, the two hundred bucks from this part-time job would be enough to buy her four kids new clothes. Their wardrobes were in dire need of an update, especially with the colder weather approaching. Aurora was determined to make the most of this opportunity, no matter how uneasy it made her.

"Aurora, someone in the V8 VIP room has requested premium cigarettes. Take this tray with you and deliver them. And don't underestimate the two bottles of alcohol on it; they're worth 20k each. If you manage to sell one, you'll earn a thousand bucks in commission." The nightclub manager halted Aurora's progress and handed her the tray.

Aurora nodded eagerly. "Okay, I'll do my best."

Aurora carefully balanced a tray, navigating through the bustling crowd towards VB. The weight of the expensive booze made her heart race with anxiety, fearing that one wrong move could send it all crashing to the ground.

Out of nowhere, someone collided with Aurora, causing her to let out a startled yelp. Her grip tightened on the tray, desperately trying to keep everything intact. Thankfully, the bottles remained unscathed.

Before she could even gather herself, a sharp, biting voice pierced the air. "What's your problem? Can't you apologize after bumping into someone?"

And she succeeded.

Under the guise of needing firewood for a bath, Celeste locked Aurora in the woodshed, leaving her vulnerable. She manipulated Timothy into drinking and took advantage of his intoxicated state, engaging in a betrayal that would forever scar Aurora's heart.

But despite Celeste's relentless pursuit, Timothy showed no interest in her. He remained devoted to Aurora, causing Celeste to eventually abandon her futile efforts.

Aurora was no fool. She couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that it was Celeste who had orchestrated her confinement in the shed, while shamelessly seducing Timothy in the process. The incident had left a bitter taste in her mouth, and now she suspected Celeste of ruining her once bright future. This conniving woman had no shame.

Life had proven to be unfair, as it often does. Celeste somehow stumbled upon a large sum of money, started a successful business, and even managed to snag a wealthy boyfriend. It was infuriating for Aurora to hear others sing Celeste's praises, talking about how blissful her life had become. It was like rubbing salt in her wounds.

Fueled by her resentment, Celeste lost her cool. "How dare you talk to me like that?" she snapped, rolling up her sleeves, ready for a fight. She had always harbored a deep dislike for Aurora, envying her alluring face and seductive charm that effortlessly entranced men, including Timothy.

Celeste glanced at him and instantly recognized Walter, the notorious heir to the Falconer group. She knew better than to mess with someone like him. With a polite nod and a curtsey, still bowing slightly, she quickly ushered her friends away. She was here to have fun, not to engage in a pointless altercation and risk offending such an influential figure.

As Celeste made her exit, Aurora took a deep breath, her heart pounding. She checked the room number, V8. "I apologize for the delay. I'll deliver your order right away," she responded, her voice filled with sincerity.

"Hurry up," the man urged, his impatience evident.

This man possessed an undeniable handsomeness, his dark and brooding aura exuding an air of nobility and intimidation. While the other men flirted and sang, he remained engrossed in his phone, seemingly engrossed in work.

Aurora, new to the nightclub scene, desired to sell drinks and earn a commission. The thought of earning a thousand dollars, enough to sustain her children's meals for two months, fueled her determination. And it seemed her best opportunity lay with this solitary man, as he appeared to have the time to entertain her. Yet, she couldn't help but feel intimidated by his commanding presence, unsure of how to initiate a conversation.

Observing her hesitation, Walter, the man who had opened the door earlier, sneered after biting into a piece of fruit offered by a woman. "What's the matter, darling? Are you aiming for a seat next to our Steven?"

Edward Crawley of the Crawley Group joined the banter, jesting, "Steven could have any woman he desires. Yet, his heart remains devoted to a woman who is no longer with us. He harbors no interest in anyone else."

Aurora's interest piqued as she learned of this hunky man's tragic love story. It appeared that his heart belonged solely to a woman who had departed this world. Such unwavering loyalty begged the question of which fortunate lady had captured his devoted affections.

Amidst the playful banter, Aurora yearned to avoid any misunderstandings. She wanted to approach this man named Steven with sincerity and authenticity. She had no intention of making a move on this attractive man. As a mother of four, her romantic notions had long been worn down by the realities of life - who had time for that?

The young men continued to play around, and Steven didn't even bother looking up. But when Aurora spoke, he couldn't help but be drawn to her. His eyes, as deep as the night sky, were fixed on her.

Her voice was like a bolt of lightning, unlocking something deep within him, a feeling that had long been buried. Why did this woman's voice sound so familiar?

"Is the booze really good? Have you tried it?" Walter changed the subject.

"Well then, crack open a bottle, give it a try, and let us know what it's like. If it's good, we'll buy it. If not, apologies, but we don't settle for subpar alcohol," Callum stated, looking on expectantly. They could have dismissed her, but Steven actually paid attention to her. He didn't get angry or ask her to leave. It was strange!

For the first time, Steven didn't send away a woman who seemed interested in him. Could it be that he was genuinely intrigued by Aurora? How could they miss this golden opportunity to tease Steven?

Aurora felt trapped. How was she supposed to know what kind of booze they preferred?

If she left now, she would offend them, and they would think she was disrespecting them.

Aurora found herself caught between a rock and a hard place. But she knew she could handle it.

"How about this? I'll pour a glass for each of your ladies, let them taste it, and have them tell you what it's like. This way, you won't think I'm overselling it. How does that sound?" Aurora cleverly shifted the responsibility onto them.

Chapter 4

: A Toast to Steven's Return

The allure of a $20,000 bottle of booze hung heavy in the air, tempting and taunting Aurora. She longed to take a chance, to pour that liquid gold and witness its transformative power. But deep down, she knew that her lack of financial means could not withstand the consequences of failure.

"Great idea," Walter declared, taking charge of the situation. He motioned for the crew to assemble, ready for the grand unveiling.

With newfound confidence, Aurora uncorked the bottle, its contents shimmering with promise. She approached Callum, flanked by two stunning women, and placed two glasses before them. As she leaned over to pour, her neckline plunged and her dress rode up, revealing a tantalizing sight.

Unbeknownst to Aurora, Steven's gaze fell upon this unexpected display. His eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly, a flicker of intrigue dancing in his eyes.

Upon receiving the silent approval from their gentlemen, the women took a sip, their unanimous appreciation evident. "Delicious!" they chorused, their words dripping with satisfaction.

In this world of opulence and privilege, the women knew how to play their part, skillfully stroking the egos of these wealthy men. Who would dare risk uttering a negative word about the wine?

In such a delicate setting, it was understood that one mustn't rock the boat.

Tonight marked a special occasion as the notorious young masters of Starhaven, Callum, Edward, and Walter, gathered to celebrate Steven's return. The air crackled with anticipation, each sip of wine symbolic of their shared camaraderie and unspoken secrets.Aurora swiftly received the message, snatching the bottle and gracefully leaned over to pour a drink for Steven. With utmost care, she poured, completely unaware of the intense heat of his gaze fixated on her plunging neckline. Once the task was complete, she looked up, addressing him with respect and courtesy, "Sir, enjoy."

In a fleeting glance, she caught sight of his eyes, deep as an abyss and sharp as a sword, sending shivers down her spine. She immediately questioned herself, wondering if she had done something to provoke his anger. Why else would he be staring at her with such piercing intensity?

"Sir, is everything alright?" Aurora spoke cautiously, her voice barely above a whisper, fearing that she had made a mistake.

That night, the woman's voice had been sweet and vulnerable, like that of a helpless kitten. But why did this woman's voice evoke such memories?

Five years ago, he had been engaged in a battle with his enemy aboard a helicopter. Drugged and injured, he had fallen from the aircraft and encountered a woman. Following the incident, he sought treatment abroad and had only returned today.

Five years ago, he had dispatched a female secretary to find that woman, only to receive the devastating news of her demise in a building collapse.

Aurora felt a chill run down her spine as she was consumed by his predatory gaze. She hastily rose from her seat, intending to create some distance between them.

However, in her haste, her legs betrayed her, leaving her off balance and tumbling forward, until she found herself landing securely in his arms.Aurora's face was embarrassingly pressed against his, feeling the tension and heat emanating from the man's skin. It sent a rush through her veins, causing her heart to race. The other three onlookers couldn't help but tease and comment on the unexpected situation.

"Whoa, Steven, love's knocking on your door," one of them exclaimed excitedly.

"Did I just see Steven being taken down by a woman? OMG, I'm gonna remember this for the rest of my life," the third added, clearly amused.

Aurora was in a state of panic. She quickly tried to stand up, using his chest for support. However, in her haste, she slipped and fell on him once again, her face bumping against his. She felt even more flustered now.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." she stammered, her words trailing off.

"What's your name?" he asked, his grip tight.

Aurora winced in pain from his strong hold. She was both hurt and scared. The situation had spiraled out of control due to her accidental fall, and it seemed to have angered him.

But little did she know, he was not only doubting her identity, but also grappling with his own desires. He had touched another woman's face that fateful night, trying to etch the memory of her soft and sweet cheeks into his mind. He wondered how it was possible for someone else to evoke the same feelings within him.

She attempted to retrieve her hand from Steven's grip, but he held on tightly, causing her eyes to well up with tears from the pain.

His gaze was like ice, unwavering and piercing. "Answer my question. What's your name?"

"Holly," Aurora answered, using her mother's ID card for her part-time jobs. She did it so that the money would go directly to her mother's card, making it easier for her to provide for the kids.

With those words, she turned on her heel and hurried out. Fearful that the powerful figure in Box VB would come after her, Aurora quickly located the supervisor, collected her commission for selling the wine and her hourly pay, and left Sapphire Skyline.

Meanwhile, inside Box V8, Walter observed the noticeable change in Steven's demeanor towards the woman. He couldn't help but tease, "Steven, need us to drag her over here for you?"

Steven shot him a sharp look. "Seems like you've got plenty of free time. I have a project down in Antarctica that needs someone capable to take charge. Maybe you'd like to volunteer?"

Ignoring the wine, Steven stepped out of the box and made a phone call to his chief bodyguard. "That woman I asked you to look for five years ago, are you sure she's dead?" His voice carried a cold and hardened tone, with a hint of anticipation.

Chapter 5

The captain of the bodyguards spoke with unwavering certainty. "I'm sure that woman is dead," he declared, his voice filled with conviction.

Memories of their visit to Hollowbrook flooded back to him. "Remember when we went there? We stumbled upon a family in mourning. The lady of the house was heartbroken, telling me her precious one had been crushed to death." The captain's recollection of the situation began to take shape.

He refrained from prying further, sensing the woman's immense grief. Instead, he discreetly inquired around the village and discovered that the family had only one daughter. The funeral, the mother's inconsolable cries, and her insistence that her precious one had perished under the weight of a collapsing old house—there was no doubt in his mind. The daughter was gone.

In the past, Steven had sent his female secretary to find this woman, hoping to bring her to him for a personal negotiation regarding compensation. He chose his secretary because he believed that as a woman, she might find it easier to establish a connection. But when she returned, she shattered his disbelief by confirming the woman's death. Crushed under an old house battered by heavy rain.

Steven couldn't fathom it. To verify the truth, he dispatched the bodyguard captain as well. Though he accompanied them, his injuries prevented him from leaving the car, leaving him to observe from a distance.

The entire village had gathered outside the family's home, enveloped in the somber atmosphere of the funeral. Faced with such a stark reality, what room was there for doubt?

"What gives you the right to quit working? We have four kids to take care of. Don't you know our situation at home? How could you just quit on a whim!" Holly's anger surged, propelling her towards Aurora with an unstoppable force.

"I might have pissed someone off. If I kept working, I was worried it would cause trouble," Aurora admitted reluctantly, knowing she couldn't hide the truth from her formidable mother.

"What?" The word escaped Holly's lips as if the very ground beneath her had crumbled. She couldn't comprehend how she ended up with such an unlucky child. Frustration fueled her actions as she jabbed her finger against Aurora's forehead. "How did I end up with such a headache-inducing kid? You're worse than that pig I used to have! My precious sow, crushed by the collapsing house. Oh, my beloved one! Why must life be so cruel to me!" Tears streamed down Holly's face as she spoke, mourning not only her lost pig but also the hardships that seemed to plague her existence.

Holly reached for her phone, her heart pounding with anticipation. As she glanced at her account balance, a thrill of excitement coursed through her. But then, a wave of sorrow crashed over her as she remembered something, leaving her serious and heartbroken."You're such a jinx," Holly exclaimed, frustration etched on her face. "Didn't I tell you before? No matter how hard or tiring, you can't sacrifice your dignity! Did you do something unsavory?" With a forceful shove, she jolted Aurora's head.

Aurora's mind was reeling. She had only been out for a few hours, and yet she had managed to earn a substantial amount of money. Was there really such easy money in this world?

Sensing the immense misunderstanding, Aurora hurriedly explained, desperate to clear the air. "Mom, you're overthinking. I sold a bottle of wine worth twenty grand, got a commission of a thousand dollars, and I worked an extra hour. The manager gave me a bonus because I did well."

"He's a big shot," Aurora replied, her voice filled with a mixture of grievance and fear. "I heard others calling him Steven. The manager also said he's some hotshot from Starhaven. I did apologize, but it didn't work, so I'm afraid he'll come after me!"

Aurora didn't hide her fear from her mother. She didn't want to quit her job at the nightclub; making money was tough these days, and a thousand dollars for a day's work was nothing to scoff at. But that man, Steven, was utterly terrifying.

Holly sighed, her expression a mix of concern and resignation. "Ah, life is tough." Though money was important, she didn't want her daughter to risk her safety for it.

"Since you're free, you take care of the kids at home. I need to go out," Holly said, her voice tinged with worry.Holly discreetly slipped her phone into her pocket, her expression tinged with secrecy.

"It's so late, where are you off to?" Aurora's concern radiated from her voice.

"Don't worry about me. Just take care of yourself!" Holly's determination was unwavering.

Aurora stood before the bedroom door, contemplating a visit to check on her four slumbering children. However, realizing the lateness of the hour, she reasoned that entering their room would only disturb their peaceful rest. Instead, she opted for a soothing shower, hoping it would wash away her worries.

Unbeknownst to Aurora, two of her children were wide awake, their innocent eyes twinkling in the darkness. Robert, her eldest son, and Bryan, her second son, had overheard the conversation between Aurora and Holly.

Whispering to one another, they huddled together, their voices filled with intrigue. "Mom must have angered Steven," Robert concluded, his tone laced with concern.

While Robert empathized with their mother's fear, he was a man of action rather than words. Retrieving his tablet from the bedside table, his nimble fingers danced across the screen, revealing a profile of a man.

"Here he is, this is Steven," Robert declared confidently.

Bryan leaned closer, his eyes fixed on the image displayed before them. The photograph showcased a sharply dressed man exuding an air of strength and charisma.

"No wonder Mom is petrified," Bryan muttered, his lips forming a pout.

Robert's mind raced with a plan. "Let's find him tomorrow and apologize. Perhaps we can persuade him to forgive Mom."

And so, the seeds of determination were sown within the hearts of two young boys, ready to embark on a mission to save their mother from the clutches of fear.
